ANZASW Auckland Branch Meeting

Auckland social workers are invited to an ANZASW meeting on the topic of the wellbeing budget and what it means for social work. The budget has been described by government as providing a different approach “putting the mental health and wellbeing of New Zealanders front and centre”. This talk will provide important context to the budget and will help social workers to understand the likely impact of proposed changes to social spending.
Mike O’Brien will also talk about the work of the Welfare Expert Advisory Group and the government’s approach to child poverty.
This talk provides a CPD opportunity and relates to several SWRB core competencies
Prior to and after the talk there will be time to meet other social workers. One item of discussion will be the possibility of restarting the Auckland ANZASW branch.
Students and social workers who are not members of the ANZASW are encouraged to attend so please feel free to forward onto your colleagues.
Children are welcome to attend however we are unable to provide childcare
Venue: Kohia Centre, 78 Epsom Ave, Epsom, Auckland.
Date: Tuesday the 18th of June
Time: 6 – 8pm. Mike’s talk will be from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
Light refreshments will be provided.
Directions: Enter gate 2 and park on level 3 of the parking building. From this level there is a walkway which connects to the Kohia Centre.

Speaker Bio: Dr Mike O’Brien is an associate professor in the School of Counselling, Human Services and Social Work, at the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Education and Social Work. Mike O’Brien has a written numerous books and reports on social policy and poverty in New Zealand.
