Auckland social workers are invited to an ANZASW meeting on the topic of the wellbeing budget and what it means for social work. The budget has been described by government as providing a different approach “putting the mental health and wellbeing of New Zealanders front and centre”. This talk will provide important context to the budget and will help social workers to understand the likely impact of proposed changes to social spending.

Mike O’Brien will also talk about the work of the Welfare Expert Advisory Group and the government’s approach to child poverty.

This talk provides a CPD opportunity and relates to several SWRB core competencies

Prior to and after the talk there will be time to meet other social workers. One item of discussion will be the possibility of restarting the Auckland ANZASW branch.
