Clinical Supervisor – Waitematā

CADS, the largest provider of alcohol and drug services in NZ, is looking for a Clinical Supervisor to join our Pregnancy and Parental Service (PPS) which has recently undergone significant expansion.

PPS is a multi-disciplinary regional service which works with pregnant women and parents of children under three years of age who have alcohol and drug issues and are poorly connected to health and social services who are experiencing multiple and complex problems with issues such as alcohol and other drugs (AOD), family violence, physical and mental health, inadequate housing, poverty and lack of social supports.

The Role:

Our multi-disciplinary team is looking for an experienced clinical supervisor with a qualification in: applied alcohol and drug studies, nursing, social work, counselling, psychology, occupational therapy or related fields.

Whilst holding a small case load, the clinical supervisor would also provide support to the PPS team by providing clinical supervision, monitoring clinical service delivery and staff performance as well as contributing to the leadership and development of the PPS team.

The Supervisor position brings an opportunity to enrich clinical practice and knowledge in the burgeoning area of early intervention for vulnerable children and to make a difference in the lives of these parents and hence that of their children.  Some of this is via direct contact with clients, but largely via supporting their clinicians in their practice and contributing to ongoing improvement of team practice and processes.

This is an opportunity to get involved in evidence based early intervention which addresses the needs of those children’s parents and strengthens the family environment utilising client led strength based goal planning. The supervisees would be clinicians working with clients using assertive outreach, advocacy, service co-ordination, risk management and working within a harm minimisation recovery model.

The Team:

The aim of PPS is to improve outcomes for the unborn and young children of these clients via interventions that reduce harm and positively impact the young children’s’ “first 1000 days” of crucial brain development, so as to enhance their future psychological and social trajectories.

Our team is resourced to assertively outreach and spend time and energy engaging with these difficult to reach parents.

Our Clinicians have robust supervisory arrangements and are offered many training opportunities with CADS and Circle of Security training https://www.circleofsecurityinternational.com/trainings.

As seen in the 2017 PPS Outcomes Evaluation the PPS clinicians are able to make a difference to the children of clients by reducing their exposure to violence, the impact of parental substance use, improved parenting, and improving clients’ self-efficacy and natural supports. Due to the success of the PPS model this service is currently undergoing national expansion and our team is proud to be actively involved with supporting this.

Required Attributes:

To work with PPS you need a sense of social justice and non-judgmental attitude; enjoy working with challenging and complex situations both autonomously and in a team; and have excellent communication skills.
