The Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Practitioner to join our team and help support the transition of vulnerable adults with their journey to well-being and permanent housing.  This newly created position will hold their own portfolio of complex cases working with issues of mental health, addiction, homelessness and trauma in a multi-cultural context.  In addition, the Senior Practitioner will provide coaching and support to a team of Key Workers who are expected to deliver quality case management and client support in this 24/7 transitional housing facility.

The Senior Practitioner will work closely with the Team Leader to ensure high quality assessment and care planning processes are delivered and that clients are engaged with appropriate services both on and off site, so that when more permanent housing opportunities become available, clients can successfully transition.

What you will bring

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Mental Health, Addiction or related.  ANZASW registration preferred.
  • Extensive experience working with vulnerable adults with complex issues, preferably within a residential context.
  • In-depth knowledge of and connection across social services agencies and health services.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the delivery of strength based models of care
  • Strong listening and rapport building skills with a non-judgemental approach.
  • Proven ability to manage, coach and support staff.
  • High standards of professional practice.

James Liston Community has the capacity for 50 adults and is a transitional housing facility.  As this is a 24/7 residential service, hours of work vary across our roster.

The Auckland City Mission is one of the largest social service providers in the sector offering broad career opportunities in a supportive environment.  Social workers receive monthly external supervision and opportunities for skill development.
