Social Work in the Cayman Islands

The Department of Children & Family Services is the Department of the Cayman Islands Government which is charged with providing cost-effective comprehensive social services, to the populace reflecting the cultural values and historical developments of the islands. In keeping with this mandate, the Department develops annual and multiyear objectives, which are reflected in the types of programmes and strategies, which can be accessed by the community. The Department is that service area, which is finely tuned, to social change and continuously reports and advocates on the implications of such change both within the Government and the wider society. The Department of Children & Family Services is therefore committed to providing individuals and families with the highest quality of professional social work services. The Social Work Manager would be directly responsible for the administration and supervision of the overall clinical social work services that are provided to individuals, and families within the community.

Remuneration and Benefits

The remuneration package for the successful candidate for Social Work Manager offers a salary in the range of CI$79,656 to CI$107,148.

Salaries are offered without deductions. The Government provides an additional 12% pension contribution and health insurance for employees and their dependents.  The appointment would be on contract for two (2) years. Leave entitlement will be twenty five (25) working days per annum.  To assist with relocation, you will receive air passages, an interest free settlement loan within the first week of your arrival equivalent to one month’s salary, moving expenses for personal belongings and hotel accommodation for 7 nights.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

We want to hear from you if you meet all of the criteria below.

  • Ability to assist in the development of clinical policies and procedures for the standardisation of delivery of social work practice, in accordance with the Children Law (2012 Revision), Adoption Law (2013 Revision), Youth Justice Law (1990 Revision), and any other relevant pertinent legislation;
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of the Department’s budget in regards to staffing and other resource needs;
  • Ability to participate in the formulation of social policies to ensure that the social needs of the community are met by researching, documenting and informing policy-making body of critical social programs and activities and designing and informing on various strategies to effect quality delivery of casework and group work services;
  • Ability to participate in the formulation of social policies to ensure that the social needs of the community are met by researching, documenting and informing policy-making body of critical social programs and activities and designing and informing on various strategies to effect quality delivery of casework and group work services;
  • Ability to provide frontline supervision to social work staff to facilitate the ongoing delivery of casework/group work services;
  • Ability to attend case conferences, care plan meetings, strategy meetings and other events; and
  • Ability to participate in case management and case assignment meetings to ensure that work assignments are equitable to social workers, properly undertaken and completed by prioritising work consistent with needs and staff availability.
