Child Matters: Child Protection in Aotearoa/NZ

Alan joined Child Matters as a Child Protection Consultant in April 2016 after spending 25 years with the NZ Police, with experience in Child Abuse Investigations, and more recently as the supervisor of the Police-led initiative, The Family Safety Team, working alongside high risk, complex needs, and difficult to engage Domestic Violence families – looking to find new and more innovative ways to engage with and support these families towards a better, more positive future, free from violence.
Alan also worked with the Police Pacific Prevention of Domestic Violence Programme (PPDVP) for five years, where he represented NZ Police as the Family Violence mentor to Vanuatu, working alongside the Ni Van Police staff and community in an education and advisory role.
Prior to his time with NZ Police Alan worked in the UK as an instructor in a maximum security prison in the North of England, where he spent time training inmates in new and more productive skills in a large workshop environment, and later travelled the country relieving as a workshop supervisor at a range of penal establishments throughout England.
