Presenter: Barbara Gilray

 

Barbara is the Principal Advisor (Social Work Practice) at the Social Workers Registration Board and she has been in this role for the last 6 years. Previous social work practice has included 15 years at Oranga Tamariki (the then CYF) in a variety of social work roles including 6.5 years as a Care and Protection Co-ordinator, Supervisor, Team Leader and Senior Advisory Office in National Office. Subsequent to joining the SWRB Barbara was the Director of Catholic Social Services in Wellington.

Barbara presents a number of books which she states will be useful for social workers. These books are:

“Working with Whanau” : – Awhina Hollis-English and Rachael Selby.

 

 

Abstract:

Navigating CPD, SWRB requirements and some advice and support around Core Competency 6: Competence to understand and articulate social work theories, indigenous practice knowledge, other relevant theories, and social work practice methods and models.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Know SWRB requirements for a CPD log
  • Ability to write appropriate critical reflections for your CPD log
  • State what comprises Core Competency 6, describe appropriate CPD related to CC6 and write critical reflections which meet SWRB standards
