Presenters: Mary Nash and Martin Sullivan 

Mary Nash is a life member of the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers. She was a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at Massey University, Palmerston North, until she retired in 2011.  Mary taught in the BSW and MSW programmes and supervised post-graduate students.

Mary’s doctoral research was in the history of social work education in Aotearoa New Zealand. Her research publications also include oral histories, as well as spirituality and social work and social work with immigrants and refugees.

Mary is keenly interested in political and social issues and has made written and oral submissions to the Health Select Committee and the Justice Select Committee on David Seymour’s End of Life Bill.

Martin Sullivan is recently retired from teaching social policy and disability studies on the social work degrees at Massey University.  He has been active in the disabled people’s rights struggle for most of his life.  He is currently a member of the leadership and governance groups of the System Transformation of disability support services in the MidCentral region.  Martin is a founding member of Not Dead Yet Aotearoa – a network of disabled people who oppose the legalisation of assisted suicide and euthanasia. NDYA is a sister branch of an international movement headquartered in New York.
