Kat Steeneken is a Counsellor, Family Mediator and Social Worker currently working and developing the area of social work concerning itself with the reduction and prevention of abuse and/or neglect of adults who have care and support needs and who may be at risk of abuse and/or neglect. With a career that spans over 20 years that began and continues with advocating for her own child who fits in the Autistic Spectrum, it is a field of practice where her passion remains high.


Safeguarding relates to protecting the health, human rights and wellbeing of adults at risk in order for them to live a life that is safe and is free from abuse and/or neglect. Safeguarding is also about agencies and organisations working collaboratively together to prevent and reduce the risks and incidents of abuse and/or neglect.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Have an understanding of what Safeguarding Adults encompasses.
  • Why we need policies and processes to safeguard adults.
