Senior Social Worker – Auckland
What you will do
The Senior Social Worker is responsible for both managing the team and the provision of social services to military personnel and their families, to ensure that Service personnel are able to perform their duties in a manner that meets the objectives of the Royal New Zealand Navy and the New Zealand Defence Force.
What we need
We are seeking a registered social worker with significant experience of working within a therapeutic setting. You will have generalist counselling skills in a number of areas including alcohol, drugs, depression, mental health, relationships, families, anger management and domestic violence. Your prior experience has given you extensive knowledge of the external local social services agencies to which clients can be referred to. To this role you will also bring a strong foundation of working with Maori and Pacific peoples, their families/whanau and communities.
You are a professional practitioner with exceptional communication skills which enable you to work across a wide range of people within a complex environment. This is a senior position where you will manage a small team of like-minded professionals while also developing the Social Work Service ensuring that it is responsive to the needs of the Royal New Zealand Navy, its Service Personnel and their families/whanau.
Another aspect of the role will see you providing welfare information for Command to assist in decision making processing such is mitigation for disciplinary events, reports and current issues for service personnel and their family/whanau.
In terms of qualifications we need a Tertiary (preferably Post Graduate) Social Work Qualification, be registered with the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board and hold a current social work competency certificate.
You will belong to the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers, hold a full current New Zealand Driver’s License and have a valid Workplace First Aid Certificate.
