Due to a staff resignation we have a vacancy for an enthusiastic Registered Social Worker to work alongside our existing, dedicated team of Inpatient Social Workers based at Hastings Hospital.

This Clinical Social Work role involves working in a multidisciplinary team on the Medical, Surgical and Assessment, Treatment and Rehabilitation Wards. You will be part of the wider Social Work team and report to the Social Work Team Leader.

As part of the Team you will provide a professional Social Work service for adult clients who are admitted to the Inpatient Wards. You will be part of the two year rotation including Adult Medical, Surgical, AT&R and Mental Health Inpatient Wards. The role also focuses on families, whanau, friends and supports that assist the progress of the client through the continuum of care from hospital to the community. The work includes; discharge planning, coordination of assessments, services and residential placements. Your work will involve counselling, advocacy and support to people with physical health and disability concerns, assisting people to deal with the emotional issues and changes in their lives.

You will be involved in the delivery of high quality Social Work support and Healthcare and will have access to professional supervision and education learning opportunities. The HBDHB employs around 70 registered Social Workers who work across the continuum of care and in various settings. Social Workers are present in acute and long term health care settings, mental health, children’s services, cancer care, older person’s services, rehabilitation, maternity, providing a range of services including health education, crisis intervention, supportive counselling and assessment. Professional Social Workers are well equipped to practice in the health care field, because of their broad perspective on the range of physical, emotional, and environmental factors that have an effect on the well-being of individuals, family/whanau and communities.

You’ll need to have knowledge and understanding of Social Work in health settings including working in a multi disciplinary team. Experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds with both short and long term health issues is desirable.

We’d love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • New Zealand Social Work Registration and a current APC
  • A degree in Social Work
  • Full NZ driver’s licence
  • Previous health social work experience is preferred but not essential
