Professional Experience:
30+ years in health social work (community and DHB), specialising in Older Persons’ Health, with a focus on dementia and palliative care. Familiar with the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988 – Family Court applications and advocacy during the legal process.
Recent experience and skills in community and hospice social work.
Experienced in working with individuals, couples, families, groups and organisations as caseworker, counsellor, facilitator and educator. After identifying social service gaps, have established groups and new initiatives.
Involvement with volunteers through training and support programmes.
Supervision of social workers, and students on placement.
Co-creator of the course “Social Work in Mental Health” at the University of Canterbury (1992)
Co-authored article in British Journal of Social Work (1993), presented at national and Australian conferences.
Now re-establishing a dedicated private counselling practice, especially in the areas of older persons’ health, ageing, dementia, change and transitions, carer support.
